Our Story

Rainbow was started in 1983 by a group of parents who were looking for a program to assist their sons/daughters who were not eligible for employment in sheltered workshops or supported employment. Their goal was to retain learned skills by working on daily living skills and community awareness.

Rainbow originally opened with three individuals in the old West End Store at Main and Christina Street in Union. Garage sales were held to pay for a phone to be installed. Since then, Rainbow has continued to grow to meet the support needs in our community.  In 2017, we changed our name from Rainbow Activity Center to Rainbow Abilities Center and purchased our current facility at 3 Prairie Dell Plaza Drive in Union.

We are proud of our history and who we are today.  We are excited about the opportunities in our future and remain committed to those we serve, their families and our community.
